Abigail McElroy, DVM

Abby received her BA in Neuroscience from Smith College in 2013 and earned her DVM from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2017. She then completed an MS at Michigan State University in 2018, where her research focused on characterizing neurological abnormalities associated with hereditary equine regional dermal asthenia (HERDA).

From 2018 to 2021, Abby worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Neurosurgery at Brown University Health, investigating tethered cord syndrome and myodural bridge dysfunction in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes.

Abby is currently a Millennium PhD Candidate at UMASS Chan Medical School, where her research focuses on developing a gene therapy for dermatosparaxis Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. In addition to her research, she works part-time in clinical veterinary practice.

Outside of work, Abby enjoys spending time with her family—both human and animal—and playing polo.
